Overview

In the Problem-Solution Essay, you are given a problem or issue related to a particular topic, and you need to describe the problem and suggest solutions to solve it.

📚The task usually asks questions like:

  1. Describing the problem: What is the issue? Why is it a problem?
  2. Proposing solutions: What can be done to solve this problem? How can it be improved?

  • Your answer must include:

    • One or more practical solutions
  • Use formal and academic language — avoid casual or emotional words.
  • Use clear structure and linking words to organize your ideas: One major problem is…,This leads to…,To solve this…,One possible solution is…
  • Make sure your solutions are relevant and realistic — not too general.
  • Support your points with examples or explanations to show your understanding.
  • Stay focused on the question — don’t write about causes or effects unless the question asks.
  • Explain the problem clearly and show how it affects people.
  • Propose Practical Solutions: Suggest realistic solutions and explain how they help.
  • Use words like “therefore,” “for example,” and “however” to connect your ideas.
  • Use Examples: Include real-life examples to support your points.
  • Keep the Structure Clear: Follow the essay structure to make your writing easy to understand.
  • Stick to the Word Count: Write 250-280 words for a well-balanced essay.
  • Manage Time: Spend about 40 minutes — 5 for planning, 30 for writing, 5 for checking.
