Matching Information

Match statements or information to the correct paragraphs or sections in the reading passage.

Overview

In this task, you are given a list of statements that contain specific details or ideas.

Your task is to match each statement to the correct paragraph (labeled A, B, C, etc.) in the reading passage.

The information in the statements are often about specific facts, examples, reasons, descriptions, or explanations found in the passage.

Example of sample question

Each statement refers to one paragraph where that information is mentioned.
The same paragraph may be used more than once, or not at all, depending on the instructions.
The wording in the statements and passage may be different, so you must match meaning, not just exact words.
This task tests your ability to locate specific information and understand details in context.
You must read carefully to decide which paragraph contains the correct information.
Skimming helps you understand the general idea of each paragraph, and scanning helps you find specific details.
Avoid guessing based only on similar words—focus on overall meaning and context.

⭐️ Important Tips:

First read all the statements to understand what you’re looking for.
Skim for topic, scan for details to locate the right paragraphs.
Underline keywords and think of synonyms.
Focus on details and use keywords or synonyms to help you match meaning, not just exact words.
Read the whole paragraph—answers aren’t always at the start.
Be aware that one paragraph may contain more than one answer, and some may not be used at all.
Avoid rushing and matching based only on similar words, or assuming the statement always reflects the paragraph’s main idea.
Eliminate clearly wrong matches.
Ignore main ideas—look for specific information.
Use time wisely—skip and return if stuck.
